Courtney Betty, JD:  Courtney Betty began his legal career as a Crown Attorney at the Department of Justice Canada, representing the Government of Canada in complex tax, commercial, and litigation matters. This experience paved the path for a unique legal career working with Governments, large corporations, community organizations, and individual clients. Courtney has used his legal career to successfully make a difference not only in the legal field but more importantly in our broader society.

Julian Castro Ortiz

Corporate Law

Julian Castro Ortiz brings unique skills and legal knowledge to Betty’s law.  Julian was called to the Bar in Colombia in 2014, the bar in  New York in 2016, and  Ontario Canada in 2019.  Julian is fully fluent in Spanish and brings experience in a variety of areas including corporate law and civil litigation. He has a deep passion for community development and working with. Emerging businesses.

Harwinder K. Johal

Immigration

Harwinder, a dual qualified lawyer, is a member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Solicitors Regulatory Authority of England and Wales. With over 20 years of experience, she specializes in immigration law, Wills and Probate, Personal Injury, Family Law, and Real Estate. Based in Calgary, she offers global services, assisting clients relocating to Canada.

Mahyar Makki, JD

Civil Litigation and Tax Dispute

Mahyar Makki has been working in the legal industry since 2009. His experience in the legal industry has been focused in litigation. Currently, he is a partner at Quantum Business Law and his areas of practice include all aspects of civil litigation and tax dispute resolution, commencing at the objection stage with the Canada Revenue Agency, right to the appeals stage at the Tax Court of Canada, and to the Federal Court. Quantum Business Law is one of Canada’s top tax planning firms serving Canadians internationally. His experience dealing with the Department of Justice enables him to resolve the majority of his cases quickly and efficiently.

Daniel Parker, JD

Corporate Law

Danny Parker provides corporate transactional work to large corporations, startups and individuals in a variety of industries.   He has worked with companies in industries such as construction materials, real estate, financial services, tech, entertainment, vending, and pharmaceuticals as well as negotiated and structured business deals for professional athletes.  He has a BS in Industrial Engineering, an MBA and a JD – all from Stanford University. 

Leighton Milton Jackson

Property Law

Leighton Milton Jackson operates in private law practices in New York, USA, Jamaica, and Barbados. Holding citizenship in Jamaica, Barbados, and the USA, Jackson specializes in Real Property, Family Law, Legal Method, Commercial Law, Research, Writing, and other areas. He possesses degrees from esteemed institutions such as Osgoode Hall Law School and the University of the West Indies. Jackson is admitted to several bars, including the New York State Bar and the Jamaica Bar. With extensive experience in academia, administration, and legal practice, he has made significant contributions to the legal field through publications, conference presentations, and professional service.

Tenechia K. Williams  brings the unique combination of law and project management. She graduated with an LLB from the University of London and based on her passion for entrepreneurship and business systems is focused on making the Betty’s law experience a smooth one for our clients who truly appreciate her compassion and care. Tenechia’s creative legal mind and collaborative approach to the practice of law  helps to create a high level of collaboration with our legal team.

Mahyar Makki is an expert in commercial and tax litigation, focusing on tax planning for high-net-worth individuals. He handles all stages of tax disputes, from CRA objections to Tax Court and Federal Court appeals. In commercial law, he manages complex shareholder disputes.

Leighton Jackson practices property law across Jamaica, Barbados, and the USA. Holding citizenship in all three nations, he is admitted to multiple bars, including New York and Jamaica. 

Leighton specializes in real property, commercial law, and family law. 

An experienced academic and legal practitioner, he has contributed significantly to the field through publications and presentations.

Naga Obazee is a highly experienced barrister and solicitor specializing in Canadian immigration law. 

With over a decade of expertise, he provides strategic representation in visa refusals, appeals, family reunification, business immigration, and deportation matters. 

A skilled litigator, he regularly appears before the IRB and Federal Court, advocating for clients’ rights and achieving successful outcomes.

Tenechia K. Williams

Holding an LLB from the University of London and a Master of Laws in International Commercial Law from the University of Salford, Manchester, Tenechia’s collaborative approach and compassion foster a seamless interaction between clients and the legal team.

Bellina Barrow

Fintech & Virtual Assets, Commercial Cross-Border

Admitted to the Bars in Trinidad & Tobago, Antigua & Barbuda and the British Virgin Islands. She specializes in civil, corporate, fintech & virtual assets, cross – border/commercial arbitration disputes and Sports Law. Bellina is an accomplished author and presenter, contributing to discussions on fintech, arbitration, and legal trends in the Caribbean.

Philip Hiebert

Corporate and Business Law.

Philip Hiebert offers a dedicated approach to corporate law, drawing on his experience supporting small businesses and startups in the Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo areas. He focuses on cost-effective corporate legal services, particularly facilitating business transactions through share or asset purchase agreements. 

Additionally, Mr. Hiebert brings expertise in corporate litigation, including shareholder rights, enforcing purchase agreements, resolving commercial tenancy disputes, managing bankruptcy and fraudulent conveyance cases, and handling injunctions. Accomplishments

Legal Consultant Represented the Government of the British Virgin Islands in the drafting of the legalization of medical cannabis legislation. Bill passed by BVI parliament waiting for approval by Her Majesty.

Carried out the deregulations of telecommunications in Jamaica, a model which was then adopted throughout the Caribbean. Served as legal counsel and business development for AT&T in obtaining licenses and developing business partners in the Caribbean to expand their United States operations.

Developed in Ontario the first crime prevention program designed specifically for Federal statutes specifically Narcotic Control Act. Program required getting buy-in from 18 RCMP detachments which was successfully accomplished despite the initial view of members that Crime prevention is not real policing. Program was eventually adopted by the RCMP nationally.

Represented the Government of Canada as a Crown Attorney in complex legal matters including Constitutional law, civil, criminal commercial, and immigration. Provided legal opinion on war crimes legislation and served as counsel on the largest tax fraud prosecution at the time. This experience provided a broad overview of the functioning and role of the legal system in Canada.

Community

Developed and implemented 3 separate Youth center programs to serve Youth in marginalized communities. Program successfully served over 1000 youths and became a model for other communities.

Taught two summer courses at UPEI on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. First course on S.15 Equality Rights and second course on S. 7 Legal Rights.
