Accountability in Action: Ensuring DEI Commitments Aren’t Just Empty Promises

Betty's Law

The global change and transformation that we want to see is not going to happen today. The change that we seek is requires decades of consistent advocacy and a genuine commitment to diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion from those in leadership positions.

We have a collective responsibility to do our part in making a positive impact now to benefit the next generation and generations to come. When it comes to DEI, companies and organizations can’t keep glossing over the real challenges with unfulfilled commitments. We must commit to taking action daily to hold institutions accountable and help move the needle forward.

Many corporations and organizations made commitments to DEI in 2020 that have been left unfulfilled or completely forgotten. I encourage you to take these two simple steps today to hold your organization or company accountable:

1. Take the time to compare your company’s current practices to their DEI and ESG commitments and assess whether they are truly fulfilling their promises.
2. If commitments and current actions are not aligned, write a letter or email to your company’s leadership to make your concerns heard.

We cannot allow the vital commitments made four years ago fade into silence without action. The time for accountability is now.
